SECOND FLOOR SHED DORMER EXPANSION
NEW BATHROOM IN DORMER
The panoramic image above shows both an addition between the main house and the garage as well as a shed dormer on the back of this post-WWII Cape Cod-style house. Note the narrow sections of roof on either side of the dormer, known as cheeks, and the eave below the dormer that allows the Cape to keep it's classic form.

The bay window was installed as part of the kitchen renovation shown below.
The renovation created a primary bedroom and new bathroom under the dormer. Windows facing East, South, and West create lots of natural light as well as sea breezes during summer evenings.
This compact 3/4 bath fits under the dormer with walls and floor of tumbled, tapestry travertine. The 4'x4' shower utilizes shower block to allow natural light and privacy.

The copper vessel sink sits on a glass and beech wood countertop with sand and shells below.
DINING ROOM ADDITION
KITCHEN RENOVATION
The shared dining room and mud room have a tongue-and-groove pine cathedral ceiling and large windows opening into the backyard.
The kitchen, finished with a Tuscan feel, has full custom cabinets design and built by NSDB. In general, the appliances are budget with the exception of the exhaust hood. The hood is a custom housing while a blower is located remotely keeping the it quiet but powerful.

The cabinets are recessed panel with various types of figured maple. The cafe table is a reproduction of a Frank Lloyd Wright table designed and built by NSDB's cabinet and furniture maker.
BASEMENT RENOVATION
This basement was transformed into a fun, family space back in the time before everybody had a large, flat screen TV. The ceramic tiles on the floor were broken and laid out in a mosaic by hand.

The entire basement ceiling, joists, subflooring, electrical, and plumbing, were spray-painted black then covered with lattice painted white creating a feeling of a moonless night sky. The lattice are easily removed for repairs/updates to electrical and plumbing.

In lieu of more expensive track lights or other wall washers, exterior flood light box cover + sockets were used around the perimeter of the room where a space was left between the lattice and the wall. Then small (R20) indoor spot lights were used with a dimmer switch.

This space was made to be flexible and has been used for many purposes including storage, family room, studio, and home theater.
