AFFORDABLE HOUSING, PEABODY, MA

Return to Previous Page

This project, funded and run by Habitat for Humanity, North Shore, consisted of taking three derelict buildings on two sites, and creating 8 units of owner-occupied affordable housing.  One (unsafe) building was torn down, and the other two, much older buildings were restored.

One building, a Second Empire, is on a separate lot across the street.  A Georgian was on a much bigger lot, and two new construction duplex homes were added.  These units were clustered to form their own court off of the street.  There are several other antique buildings on this urban street, so the two new construction buildings were designed to complement the neighborhood by being simple reproductions from other periods.

The bottom photo shows the right-most building in the drawing. It is has features of a federal period home, without the chimneys of course.  The  two condos are arranged as townhouses with three floors.
